Michael Capobianco has published two solo science fiction novels, Burster (Bantam) and Purlieu (Placeholder Press). He is co-author, with William Barton, of the critically acclaimed hardcore science fiction novels Iris (Doubleday, Bantam Spectra, Avon Eos), Alpha Centauri (Avon Eos), and White Light (Avon Eos) and the retroactively alternate history novel Fellow Traveler (Bantam Spectra), as well as short fiction. Capobianco's short story "The Iceberg," originally published in Analog Science Fiction and Fact, was selected for inclusion in the anthology ECO25: The Year's Best Speculative Ecofiction.
Born in Washington, D.C. in 1950, Capobianco graduated from the University of Virginia with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies. In the 1980's, he was involved in the development of game software for home computers. An amateur astronomer, he is a member of the International Occultation and Timing Association (IOTA).
Capobianco served as President of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) from 1996-1998 and again from 2007-2008. He received the Service to SFWA Award in 2004 and is currently SFWA's Authors Coalition Commissioner and Chair of its Contracts Committee.
